EMMA UK NEWS UPDATE
APRIL 2008

Two events in and already 2008 results are a close run affair. Several categories are already very tight with points swapping to and fro. Experienced and Advanced classes continue to look the best supported and the standard is causing judges more than a few headaches.

Get Your Ears On

EMMA competitors are a friendly bunch and love to show off their systems. In fact, we are so keen to encourage them to do so that we have relaxed rules regarding the presentation of their vehicles. This allows them to have the doors open at shows and even to invite show visitors to climb in and have a listen. Nobody is docked points for the odd footprint or blade of grass in a foot well! However, if you want to listen to a car please check with the owner first and leave your drinks and food outside. Generally competitors set their cars for optimum listening from the driver’s seat and the seat is normally set well back to help with the listening experience. Please make sure you leave the vehicle exactly as you found it.

Fresh Competitors

With an increasing flow of new competitors coming to events, our regular competitors are finding it harder and harder to dominate their classes. This is good as only through fresh competition can we improve the standard and become competitive on the international stage. But we cannot rest, the pursuit of fresh competitors is a time consuming task but essential to the competition its sponsors and the market at large. We really appreciate the involvement of our competitors in recruiting from friends and business colleagues. Keep up the good work and continue to enjoy the network of new like-minded friends you are helping to build.

ESPL

This was launched at ISTS early in April. ESPL complements perfectly the EMMA mantra of open access for all. By marking installs on safety, we keep the more extreme competitors away offering the chance for a much broader spectrum of competitor.
Managing to attract a small number of competitors we demonstrated how enjoyable this form of competition can be. We even managed to introduce one or two to the broader delights of SQ. Music is not all about big bass and sometimes the pursuit of the low notes can override the joy of music. Through ESPL we can deliver the best of both worlds. Be proud to be loud but don’t be a stranger to full range(r)!

Coverage

EMMA UK is fortunate to have drawn the attention of some significant media partners with Auto Audio and ISTS coverage being featured on http://www.talkaudio.co.uk as well as in Fast Car and at http://www.fastcar.co.uk/emma. If you are in the In-Car Entertainment trade, you can also read coverage and news in the industry trade magazine M.E.N.

Car + Sound at Sinsheim

The European EMMA kick-off event is traditionally held at the Car + Sound show in Sinsheim, Germany. This year saw the inaugural European Super Cup, a sub competition open to “voted in” countries which use identical equipment to create a demo vehicle for the season. This year’s event was won by Romania with the UK entry built by Carlo Corbin and his team managing a close second. The UK car, a Peugeot 206, will be on show at all EMMA UK events for the rest of the season. It is a stunning piece of work and should not be missed. For further information on all the Super Cup cars it this link: http://www.emmanet.eu/EMMAnew/menue.htm
Elsewhere in the competition, UK competitors did well. Steve Hanson, Team Pioneer, took third in the advanced 7-channel class with his gorgeous Skoda while Dave Legg, Team Genesis, took third in Master Unlimited in his only once before seen Mercedes. Mark Turner, Team Pioneer, missed out on top spot by just two points in Expert Unlimited in his freshly updated BMW showing his class and ability to develop his system to attack extremely stiff pan-European competition.
Well done to everyone who went over and flew the flag for EMMA UK.
